Your data, in plain English

What data we keep

Your account. When you log in with Google or Apple, we keep your name, your email address and your profile photo. With Apple you can hide your real email address: that is decided on your phone, and all we receive is the alias.

Your approximate location. We use it while you have the app open, only to sort cafés by distance and to centre the map. We don't store it in any history and we don't track it in the background.

What you do on Wonk. Your reviews and the measurements in them (Wi-Fi, noise, plug sockets), your favourites, your bookings and the coupons you redeem. That is what the app is made of: without it, there are no café listings.

Notifications. If you agree to receive them, we keep the token that identifies your phone so that we can send them. It is deleted when you log out or uninstall the app.

What we use it for

To make the app work: showing you cafés nearby, publishing your reviews under your name, handling your bookings and validating your coupons at the counter.

To let you know about things: the status of a booking, a new offer or news from Wonk. You can turn off marketing notifications from your phone whenever you like.

We don't sell your data. There is no third-party advertising and there are no profiles for advertisers.

Who else handles it

We use infrastructure services that process data on our behalf: Supabase (database and accounts), Google (the map, public information about venues and logging in with Google), Apple (logging in with Apple) and Expo (sending notifications). Each one receives the minimum it needs to do its part.

If we switch on payments in the future, they will be processed by Stripe: your card details go straight to them and never pass through our servers.

Cafés see your reviews under the name you posted them with, and the code for your booking or coupon. They never see your email address.

How long we keep it, and your rights

We keep your data for as long as you have an account. If you delete it, everything of yours is deleted: your account, reviews, bookings, favourites and tokens. Your reviews cease to exist; they are not kept in anonymised form.

You can ask us for a copy of your data, or ask us to correct or delete it, by writing to hola@wonk.app. We reply within 30 days.

Wonk is operated from Uruguay and complies with Uruguay's personal data protection law (Law 18.331). If you are in the United Kingdom or Europe, you also have your rights under the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects you, we will let you know in the app before the change takes effect. The date of the latest version is shown below.
